Growing in Faith and Love: Spring at Dutilh Preschool

By: Robyn Mullin, Director of Dutilh Preschool

Spring is a season of renewal, growth and the perfect time to teach preschoolers about God’s creation and love. Each spring, I begin by opening windows and letting everything air out. I love the fresh start of the season and how everything feels new. Seeing the trees and flowers blooming, starting to hear birds chirping and the sun staying up longer than before gives a sense of growth. Genesis 1:11-12 says “Then God said, ‘Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.’ And it was so.” This passage speaks to me this time of year while everything around us is growing and makes me think SPRING!

While I enjoy seeing the growth God restores for us every year, I also enjoy watching our preschoolers grow. Especially in their faith as we continue through the school year. Each month, we meet with Pastor Tom for our chapel time where he leads the children in some guided questions, music and a short lesson. Each month their participation and knowledge grow stronger. The children enjoy spending time in the sanctuary, looking and listening for God. Pastor Tom teaches us that God is all around us and we can speak to him anytime and anywhere.

At the end of February, Dutilh Preschoolers created some beautiful hearts to share with some residents of local nursing homes. Each child glued pieces of paper to their heart which read “God loves you to pieces”. Our hope was to share God’s love with those around us, share our love with some of our older friends, and teach our children the act of service. Through our mission projects each month we show our preschoolers how to love God, love others and love to serve. My prayer is for our preschoolers to shine light on our church’s mission each month.
