Summer Story Time at Dutilh Preschool: A Sweet Summer Tradition

By: Robyn Mullin, Director of Dutilh Preschool

This week, Dutilh Preschool is excited to host its second Summer Story Time of the year! We invite families to join us for a joyful reading of The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli—an entertaining and silly story that’s perfect for a warm summer morning.

Last month, we kicked off our summer reading series with The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Our cozy group of children and caregivers gathered to enjoy the beloved tale of friendship and sharing. After the story, the creativity truly began to flow! The children crafted beautiful colorful fish using sparkles, bits of paper and contact paper. Others delighted in shaping sea creatures with play dough, adding shimmering bits to bring their creations to life. One of the most popular stations was our dotted fish activity, where little artists explored colors and patterns in a hands-on way.

No summer gathering is complete without a treat, and our themed snack did not disappoint! The kids giggled their way through a slightly messy but very tasty “beach scene” made with graham crackers, blue icing, fruity pebbles and, of course, goldfish crackers swimming in the mix.

These story time events are a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, slow down, and enjoy the simple pleasures of a good book and creative play. They reflect our preschool’s mission to nurture young minds while building community and sharing God’s love through joyful moments.

We can’t wait to see what fun this week’s story will bring! Come join us as we dive into The Watermelon Seed and make new memories with friends—maybe even with a juicy watermelon treat to follow!
