In the Blink of an Eye

In the blink of an eye, I somehow have a ten-year-old. My first-born son, Maddox, turns ten this week and this is the first birthday where I really feel like I’m taking a step back and thinking where in the world did the time go?
We have officially entered the era of sports, biking through the neighborhood with friends, and sleepovers. Which is weird, because I feel like just yesterday, we were watching Paw Patrol on repeat, “baking” with Play Doh, and taking our weekends nice and slow with pancake breakfasts and trips to zoo.
While I loved those slower times, this next era has been proving to be exceptionally fun. I love watching Maddox grow into who he’s becoming: a good friend, a sometimes-loving big brother (let’s be real), and a dedicated young Christian. Watching him get involved in church and being passionate about attending services on Sundays and participating in any way he can warms my mama heart. He’s already talking about FISH camp for next summer, is pumped for the next year of Kingdom Kidz Choir, and after this past Sunday, looking forward to his chance at mission trips in the coming years.
I imagine, as most parents of older children tell me, that time in fact won’t slow down. That sadly I’ll blink again, and he’ll have all of those “future” experiences behind him. But I’m praying that I can savor these moments, build more memories, and keep them fresh in my heart and mind – because what a blessing it is to experience it all even if it goes by in a blink of an eye.
