Finding Your Church Corner
Jonah Smeltzer, Director of Communications
I’ve had the pleasure of being the electric guitarist for the contemporary worship band since I was about 15 years old. Being able to lead the congregation in worship and praise makes me feel incredibly connected with God.
Contributing my talents to the church helped me find that specific group of people I feel connected to while I’m at church. If I didn’t have that strong relationship with that corner of the Dutilh family, who knows if I would even be where I am today on the church staff.
There are so many events and organizations that come together and help run church events, and some even reach out beyond the church to help the local community. Volunteering at church shouldn’t feel like a chore. If you find your place in the right church group, it can almost feel like finding a job that doesn’t feel like work.
This could mean singing in the choir or playing music in another musical group. If you like cooking and baking, you can try helping the kitchen crew make amazing meals. There are even just Men’s and Women’s groups, so there is surely a spot for every Dutilh Churchgoer.
Don’t get overwhelmed by all of the options when you visit the ministry page on the website. Instead, try to think about what you want to do. Building on that is how you can find a place to use your talents somewhere within the Dutilh community!
