Your Story Matters Here: James Lawrence
If you’ve been receiving our newsletter for a while, you may remember a series called “Your Story Matters Here,” where we shared the stories of our Dutilh family members. This feature was a wonderful way to get to know the people you might see on Sunday mornings, in a Bible study, or around the community.
After a short hiatus, we’re excited to announce that “Your Story Matters Here” is back—thanks to one of our newer members, James (Jim/Jimmy) Lawrence!
Jim was born and raised in Elyria, Ohio, where he was baptized and received his Bible from the First Methodist Church. After college (and perhaps spending a little too much time at a local beer garden called Jiminots, as he jokes), Jim decided it was time to grow up. He volunteered for the draft and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. As part of the BIG RED 1 artillery team, he now proudly sports hearing aids as a reminder of his service. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1965, he returned home and completed his degree at a local community college.
In 1983, Jim moved to Pittsburgh after being promoted to District Manager of a large scrap company. His career thrived during the steel and scrap industry boom, taking him across the United States, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Europe. Later in life, he served his community as a Judge of Elections and Councilman for Franklin Park Borough.
“I have had the good fortune of living a truly charmed life with all the trials and tribulations that we all experience when raising a family,” Jim shared. “God gave each of us a special spirit deep inside to accept these challenges, learn from them, and find ways to accomplish all in His name. We give glory to God in our own special ways to thank Him for all He does for us. Amen!”
We’re so grateful for Jim’s willingness to help us tell the amazing stories of our members. If you see him on Sunday, be sure to say hello—you may even get a call or email soon inviting you to share your story!
If you’d like to be featured—or know someone with a great story to tell—please email Leigha Pindroh, and she’ll connect you with Jim.
